Town Profiles
New Bedford
New Bedford is known as “the whaling city” and is a city of
over 100,000 people with a rich history and unique
architecture. There is an active fishing industry and many
immigrants have always been welcomed to this area especially
of Portuguese culture.
The restoration and maintenance of many historic buildings
and the historic district has paid off since the U.S.
Congress designated a 13 block, 20 acre area of New Bedford
as the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park in 1996.
The area has much to offer in the modern world and there are
many things to see and do in the city and outlying areas.
